KATIPS Movie - Synopsis, Cast and Crew

When his University of the Philippines Professor was abducted by the government-controlled Metropol during a demonstration of different groups in the mountainside that was Mendiola, Greg, a medical student and the leader of the National Union of Students in the Philippines (NUSP), along with other freedom fighting groups stood their ground and began a vigil until the Metropol came back and used force to subdue the protest. Despite the blood and gore, the burning desire for freedom grew within the hearts of those who were brutally subjugated. But their fight did not stop there.

In a safehouse aptly named the “Katips House” owned by Alet, a 30-year-old activist, we are introduced to Panyong, a subversive writer for the underground newspaper, “Ang Bayan”, and other characters that keep the fight for freedom. After the Declaration of the Martial Law, during a strike for the welfare of workers, two other students were seized; Art, a freshman student and photographer to the school paper and Estong, leader of the worker’s union. Soon after, Alet was also snatched and all three were separately tortured and became part of the statistics of desaparecidos, the unaccounted radicals branded as insurgents during the days when the Writ of Habeas Corpus was no longer in effect. When the decaying corpse of Alet was found beside a ditch in a far-flung area in Bulacan, the fight for freedom took Greg and Panyong to the mountains for safety, while Lara looked after the Katips Home, she was a former New York actress who just recently took up the cause after learning that her father, Greg’s captured professor, was killed by no other than the government she used to idolize.

Producer, Writer, Director Statement By Atty. Vince M. Tañada About KATIPS THE MOVIE

As lawyer who pursued my artistic passion by starting the Philippine’ Stagers Foundation Inc. (PSF) back in 2001 with the intent to educate as many youths as we can and train as many artists with the passion and talent for theatre, I am proud that it eventually grew into the Philippines’ premiere and biggest touring theatre company. The pandemic greatly affected our dedication to bring our Musical plays that at the time was averaging at least 500 performances a year. It  was part of our artistic thrust to educate audiences all over the country - not only in the power of the arts but in teaching the young and old alike of the explosive force that knowledge of history has, in whatever form it will take.

But the Arts will always have a way to manifest even in times of difficulty. Last year, in the heat of the ongoing pandemic, Philstager’s Films was born as a web-based media outfit in our way to keep our passion burning and to somehow give work to some of our more displaced talents. For almost one year, with an ever-growing viewership and engagement, we believe that the time has come for our small film outfit to grow.

Hilarious and star-studded, "Happy Birthday, Ned, (sino s'ya?!?) is a winning docu-comedy perfect for holiday viewing on KTX.ph

This November laugh-a-lot offering raises funds for poor children who love learning

One of the most intriguing offerings this November on KTX.ph, the leading global Filipino digital events portal, is a docu-comedy special whose title asks a question: "Happy Birthday, Ned! (sino s'ya?!?)".

In a fast-paced but thoughtful Q&A interview, birthday boy Ned Legaspi - presently ABS-CBN Global Head of Creative Services - allowed TFC a sneak peek on what the show is about and how it drew the participation of top Filipino celebrities in the world of comedy.

TFC: What's the genesis of this unique project?

NED: The original title of this show was "Sing-Kwento, Singkwenta" to celebrate by 50th birthday.  But some friends of mine said, "Ned, your supporting cast is much more well-known that you.  Compared to them, sino ka? (Who are you?)"  Okay, so I said let's just change the title literally to "Happy Birthday, Ned! (sino s'ya?!?).

NYK Is Anxious On The Intimate First Single From His New Project

Malaysian alt-pop artist NYK tells the story of how he’s been feeling with his new release ‘Anxious’, now out on all digital streaming platforms via Sequence/Ultra Records. Produced and written together with friend and collaborator bruises, he hopes that listeners who have felt the same way will find solace and comfort in the track, which marks a sonic departure from some of his more recent, upbeat work, and has more in common with earlier material from his debut EP UNLOVABLE.

“ 'This is a very personal track. It’s basically a narrative of my mental health issues throughout the past year or two - my struggles with anxiety and depression. Some of these issues have been caused by the outside - by external factors. Some of them were caused by myself. It's just a story of the ups and downs that come with that. “ - NYK

Janine, Relatable Ang Bagong Single Na “PAGOD NA AKO”

Filipino media giant illustrates how pirate domains can be taken down via US Courts

The Court in the Southern District of Florida entered a default judgment in favor of leading Filipino media and entertainment company, ABS-CBN, and against 21 pirate site operators. The Order includes an award of damages in excess of $1 million against each of the 21 pirate website operators. The websites associated with these illegal operations are streaming portals offering free access to ABS-CBN content in the U.S. and abroad.

Due to the defendants’ failure to appear in court or participate in the lawsuit, the court approved ABS-CBN’s request for $1 million in trademark damages against each of the site operators. Below are the defendants by number and subject domain name:

Additionally, six of the defendants were ordered to pay between $30,000 to $90,000 in damages for copyright infringement. Further, thefilipinochannel.su was ordered to pay another $10,000 in cybersquatting damages for its domain name, which is confusingly similar to one of ABS-CBN’s registered trademarks.

Despite the challenge of not knowing the identities of the pirate domain operators, the default judgment takes direct aim at their wallets. The order includes a provision that requires advertising service providers to turn over any restrained revenue generated by the pirate websites. These funds were previously restrained in a temporary restraining order against the defendants.

Moreover, these pirate sites have been ordered to hand over their domain names to ABS-CBN so that they may no longer be used as a source for their infringing activities. If the domains’ current registrars do not comply, ABS-CBN may escalate the order to the controlling registry, which will then be instructed to put the domains on hold and remove them from the TLD zone files.

At this time, ABS-CBN has succeeded in removing 18 of the domains at issue.
