X Factor Analysis TOP 8!

I love singing competitions, and X factor is one of those that give way to many great singer/s. At first, I don't noticed the show, but since I get to see it on weekends makes me hooked into it. I came across the post of Kuya Carlo Yanesa, who is a music expert and a great singer himself as I can declare, I like to feature his two cents about his analysis on each of their performance.
Don't worry, I've asked for permission for this. And I wanted to share this because I agree with his opinions and there is also something more that we don't usually notice. He updates weekly, so I hope this would also be a weekly post just like Yonel's top 30 on MTL. Try to check them out and see if you also agree.

#XFactorTop8

Now with enough rest, i am ready to make my review. 3 days late. Haha. But again, this is my own personal take on their performances last Saturday, regardless of TakeOff being eliminated, i wish to share my insight on their pieces.

THEME - OPM Music. Cannot be any more proud of our own Music. But notice, a lot of the choices were originally performed by opm bands. It's okay. But how i wish, they could do another OPM episode. Too many OPM songs to choose from. :-)

Jeric Medina: “Akin Ka Na Lang” by Itchyworms - Okay, i just have to say, he really sounds good. But choice of song, i don't think it's a good move for him. Tama si Charice, stick with the ballads. Less muna with movement, ika nga Kuya Gary. Given na ang CD quality nyang vocals. But i'm still looking for the perfect ballad that will really bring him back to the top. Pero he's looking better and better every week. I have to give him that.

Joan Da: “Nobela,” by Join The Club - Oh, i heard this live song again. Those days of OPM Bands like more than 6 years ago. What a lovely song. She did very well in this one, except that i feel like she is sounding like KZ more and more every week. Her vocal interpretation is just suitable for this rearranged song, pero there are mellow verses that reminds me of how KZ starts her songs. Otherwise, her best performance so far.

Daddy’s Home: “Paraiso” by Smokey Mountain - For me, this could have been the best performance of the night. Sold with the orchestraic areglo. But what's with the chorale and the singing kids? I get the point of making it more grand by adding vocals into it, pero nawala yung primary intention na marinig silang kumanta, sila lang. maganda naman yung vocal areglo, 'coz it needed simple harmony lang naman,. And again, i'm looking for a bass. Halos lahat sila ay nasa taas.

Gab Maturan: “Rainbow” by South Border - He found his groove back! Yehey! This is the confidence we are looking for. And it reflected in his singing. In fairness sa attempt nya to do falcetto adlibs at the last part. 'Di kaya nasobrahhan naman? Haha. It wasn't a perfect performance, but glad he came out his once, shy, uncertain self. Now he needs to pump up his vocals, para mas makapal pakinggan. Good for you, Gab.

Takeoff: “Yakap Sa Dilim” by the APO Hiking Society - This song i think was too big for the group to slay. They sang mostly in unison, especially during the first verse and chorus. They were not in their element, the plain singing limited them to showing their full potential. I have to agree with Kuya Martin, probably it's too old for them, and probably caused them the competition.

Allen Sta. Maria: “Hanggang May Kailan Man” by Carol Banawa - Personally, mas diva nga si allen more than a rocker. Hindi pilit compared to how she is groomed to become a rockstar. Tama si Kuya Gary, hindi sya bumirit this time. Which is good. Yung first note though, alam mong she really reached the note. Medyo risky yung range. And there's a certain "piyok " sa last chorus, medyo hindi mapapalampas.

KZ Tandingan: “Ang Huling El Bimbo” by The Eraserheads - First time to be wowed by KZ. At last, an amazing vocal journey given by this talented girl. Plus an anthemic songs na alam ng lahat. Notice how she didn't over-interpret it, just smooth, and clear direction of her vocals. And the dynamics - whew! The soft parts and transitions leading to her riffs were seamless. And how about the last lines? Crisp and dramatic. A fitting ending. Clap Clap!!!

Kedebon Colim: "Kailangan Kita" by Ogie Alcasid / Gary Valenciano - Let me remind everybody that this is a competition. Whether they're looking for a great singer, or someone with an x-factor, Kedebon is definitely not the first thing in mind. I know he was able to reach the ballad's high notes, i commend him for that (plus the uber gandang areglo). But we cannot disregard the pitchy first half of his performance (mostly sharps). I think everyone would agree, maraming kayang i-deliver ang song na yan, with more precision and emotion. I am frustrateed with this one.

My bottom three - Jeric, TakeOff, and Kedebon. That's it. TakeOff was eliminated. Now they're down to Seven. Looking forward to this Saturday's theme. And that's putting my two cents on it.
