2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards to honor legendary actor, comedian and musician Jack Black with “Comedic Genius Award”

DJ SNOOPADELIC joins 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards 

Nominees announced for social category “Best Musical Moment;”

Epic global event airs in Southeast Asia on Wednesday, June 8

MTV today revealed that legendary actor, comedian and musician Jack Black will be honored with the “Comedic Genius Award” at the 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards. Hosted by actress and musician Vanessa Hudgens, the epic one-night event will kick off from Barker Hangar on Sunday, June 5 with Movie & TV Awards: UNSCRIPTED, hosted by Tayshia Adams, immediately after. In Southeast Asia, the two awards shows will premiere on Wednesday, June 8, starting 7pm (TH, WIB), 8pm (SG, PH) and 9pm (MY) on the MTV Asia channel.

Entertainment icon and legendary DJ, Snoop Dogg aka DJ SNOOPADELIC, will return to the stage for the 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards

MTV also unveiled the return of the social category “Best Musical Moment” and the 16 nominees competing in the category. Voting to officially open via MTV’s Instagram Stories on May 30th and closing June 3rd; the winner will be revealed in show. 

MTV Digital additionally revealed its first multi-platform “Who Did It Butter?” Creator Livestream on Friday, June 3rd at 4PM ET (June 4, 4am SG), which will air simultaneously across MTV’s Facebook,Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. Additional details below. 

MTV MOVIE & TV AWARDS – COMEDIC GENIUS AWARD

o    Black will become the fifth recipient of the highly-coveted award, which honors an actor who has made incomparable contributions to the world of comedy, providing a major influence through their work and transforming the genre at large. He joins an impressive roster of past comedic trailblazers who have received the award, including Melissa McCarthy (2016), Kevin Hart (2015), Will Ferrell (2013) and Sasha Baron Cohen (2021). 

o    ABOUT JACK BLACK: Jack Black has cemented himself as one of the most versatile and sought-after talents in entertainment with an illustrious career that includes projects in film, television, music, and more. Most recently, he can be heard in Netflix’s Apollo 10 ½, directed by Richard Linklater. He reprised his role opposite Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart in Jumanji: The Next Level, the highly-anticipated follow up film to 2017’s global smash hit Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle. Additionally, Black is behind the viral YouTube channel Jablinski Games, which launched in 2018 and reached one million subscribers in just days. Black also continues to tour internationally as the lead singer of the rock-folk comedy group Tenacious D, which he created with longtime friend and collaborator Kyle Gass. Black can next be seen in Lionsgate’s Borderlands, a science fiction action comedy film based on the popular video game.

“WHO DID IT BUTTER?” CREATIVE LIVESTREAM: Heading into Movie & TV Awards weekend, MTV will meet up with some of our favorite creators including Tefi, Boman Martinez-Reid, Ryan Mitchell and Mandii B to discuss their favorite movie and TV moments across topics like “Most Quotable Character,” “Friend Group I Wanna Join” and many others. They'll duke it out to reveal “Who Did it Butter?” on Friday, June 3rd at 4pm ET. This marks MTV's first multi-platform livestream to air simultaneously across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube!
