The Asian Christian Art Association (ACAA) in partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) present Season Two of Art Republik TV with a maiden broadcast on May 23, 2016 from 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Knowledge Channel. Knowledge Channel is available through SkyCable Channel 5, Destiny Cable Digibox Channel 5, and ABS-CBN TV Plus Channel 5.
Visual artist Emmanuel Garibay leads the Philippine chapter of ACAA, a non-governmental organization that aims to promote art and theology.
Season Two follows the creative journey of 18 Filipino artists from varied art practices for its themed six episodes offering with each episode shown in three parts.
The season also uncovers the contributions of the artists’ travels within and without the country to their artistic productions. Three of the guests are currently based abroad, specifically, Joel Vega in the Netherlands (Episode 3), and Arlu Gomez in the United States and Lizza May David in Germany (both in Episode 5).
Episode One, the season premiere, features Philippine jazz artist Bob Aves on May 23 for its Part 1; musician and sound artist Charles Fournier on May 24 in its
Part 2; and visual and performance artist Jose Tence Ruiz is telecast on May 25 for Part 3 of the same episode.
The underlying themes of the season include Close Family Ties for Episode One, Hard Work for Episode Two, Adaptation for Episode Three, Expression of Concern for Episode Four, Bayanihan (Working Together) for Episode Five, and Respect for Episode Six. The six themes are shared values and cultural traits commonly ascribed to and aspired for by Filipinos.
“Season Two of Art Republik TV explores the different creative processes of the guests, and how the artists employ principles and the episode themes in and outside their work. These are underscored by the influence and confluence of their familial and educational backgrounds, and personal experiences,” Betty Uy-Regala, ACAA representative and Art Republik TV producer, said.
The core production team of the television program led by Uy-Regala consists of co-producers Evie dela Cruz and Michael Uy; director Burgos; and researchers Opaline Santos and Kaye Gimony Ampong.
Season Two is the second partnership of ACAA with the NCCA after Season One was aired in 2012. The Commission – primarily tasked with the creation and implementation of policies, coordination, and administration of the National Endowment Fund for Culture and the Arts (NEFCA) – aims to preserve, develop, and promote Philippine arts and culture.
The partnership with ACAA for Season Two of Art Republik TV addresses the Commission’s third mandate that states: “To ensure the widest dissemination of artistic and cultural products among the greatest number of people across the country and overseas for their appreciation and enjoyment”.
