"SA LIKOD NG TSAPA" (Beneath the Badge) is an action-packed docudrama film about Police Colonel Hansel Marantan, a battle-scarred police officer, accused and imprisoned for an operation gone wrong. He confronts the system that betrayed him as he seeks redemption and justice in a nation torn between loyalty and law.
“Hindi ko ito ikinuwento para sa simpatiya. Ikinuwento ko ito para sa katotohanan at hustisya,” says PCol. Hansel Marantan.
This docudrama, written, produced, and directed by former journalist Editha Z. Caduaya, delves into his complex and controversial life story — a tale of truth, betrayal, and redemption.
The panelists who met the press during a recent media conference were: PCol. Hansel M. Marantan, subject of the documentary, Ms. Editha Z. Caduaya, director and producer, Lt. Col. Stefanio Andrenicus Rabino (who portrays the younger Marantan in the film), and Col. Mario Mayames, unit director.
PCol. Marantan, currently the Acting Director of the Police Peace Development Center (PPDC), previously led the CIDG–NCR, and was involved in high-profile and controversial assignments, including the Atimonan Quezon shootout (2013), the Valle Verde, the Congressman Teves and KOJC operations, among others.
“Sa Likod Ng Tsapa” is a gripping story that seeks to spark meaningful conversations on justice, loyalty, accountability, and the human face of law enforcement, and the unseen burdens behind the badge.
“We are thrilled with the ‘G’ rating (from the MTRCB) for our offiical trailer, as it allows Col. Marantan’s story to reach audiences of all ages across the country,” said Caduaya.
“This approval is a huge boost for our team in Davao, it shows that even regional stories like ours can resonate nationally,” she added.
Meanwhile, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Nicolas Torre is open in inviting the public to watch this highly anticipated film -- a powerful and gripping portrayal of the challenges and triumphs of police officers in the line of duty.
General Torre said the film underscores the discipline, excellence, and rigorous training of PNP personnel who dedicate their lives to protecting the Filipino people.
“This movie reflects the discipline, excellence, and relentless commitment of our police officers to safeguard lives and uphold peace and order,” he said.
The documentary centers on six major operations of the PNP, most of which were sanctioned by the Office of the President to neutralize criminal elements and threats to national security.
The film is produced by POP Moviehouse and Newsline Philippines, and is set for a nationwide theatrical release staring August 13, 2025, distributed by Solar Pictures.
