“High School in Jakarta” takes listeners back to the very start of NIKI’s first romance, capturing the intense whirlwind of emotions that come with the beginning of falling in love. The track continues to see NIKI shine revisiting her singer/songwriter roots, featuring a light and playful melody that accentuates NIKI’s vivid and eloquent storytelling ability.  The accompanying video sees NIKI transported back to the trials and tribulations of high school, all while experiencing the euphoria of her teenage first love.

“High School in Jakarta” follows previous single “Oceans & Engines,” a heart-wrenching ballad on surrendering to a broken relationship that serves as an impassioned moment of clarity and demonstrates NIKI's songwriting ability. In the short time since its release, the track has amassed over 7 million streams and 2 million views on the music video. NIKI first announced Nicole with the release of lead single “Before,” a reflective nostalgia-tinged record that upon release, received acclaim from NME, UPROXX, and Teen Vogue who praised that the record “perfectly highlights NIKI’s songwriting prowess.” Both tracks will appear on Nicole.

Recently, NIKI announced her first ever North American headlining tour “The Nicole Tour,” which nearly sold-out during the presale and within the first 3 hours of general onsale. The run kicks off in Vancouver, BC on September 8th and stops in major cities including New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, and more before wrapping at The Wiltern in Los Angeles on October 22nd. ABOUT NIKI

Since breaking through with her 2018 EP Zephyr, NIKI has made a powerful imprint on the pop scene, amassing a devoted global fanbase with over 1.8 billion streams to date and making history as the first Indonesian artist ever to perform at Coachella. But after delivering her critically acclaimed debut album MOONCHILD, the Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter felt compelled to completely reexamine her artistic process—a move that found her revisiting the vast catalog of unfiltered and indie-folk-leaning songs she’d created in high school. As she returned to the stream-of-consciousness approach to songwriting that defined her earliest material, the 23-year-old musician soon arrived at her sophomore album Nicole: a boldly self-possessed body of work written entirely by NIKI, spotlighting her finespun storytelling and warmly expressive vocals more fully than ever before. With the album’s first half comprised of new or never-before-heard songs and its latter half featuring her favorite tracks from her widely beloved YouTube channel, NIKI imbues her songs with the kind of lived-in specificity that immediately reconnects the listener with the rush and devastation of their own first love. Nicole is due out August 12th via 88rising.
