ABS-CBN International News Production Head Troy Espera named to Board of Governors of NATAS SF/NorCal Chapter

ABS-CBN International’s Head of News Production, Troy Espera, was recently named to the Board of Governors of the San Francisco/Northern California Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS).

NATAS recognizes excellence in television with the coveted Emmy® Award.

As a Board of Governors member, Espera will be working on the Membership and Education committees. This is in line with his personal brand mission as an advocate for ethnic media. Espera shares that, “My goal on this board is to carve out more space for other ethnic media outlets in NATAS and to promote ethnic media careers to students.”

Immediate past NATAS President Steve Shlisky shared that he has been wanting to build a more diverse board, looking for representation from content producers within the regions of Northern California, Hawaii, Reno, Nevada, and Guam.

ABS-CBN TFC’s BA Executive Producer Troy Espera Selected as 2018 Fellow of Maynard Institute for Journalism Education

The Robert C. Maynard Institute for Journalism Education, a nonprofit dedicated to making newsrooms look like America, announced today the recipients of its inaugural Maynard 200 Fellowship for training journalists, producers, management, and journalism entrepreneurs of color.

Troy Espera, executive producer of ABS-CBN The Filipino Channel’s (TFC) BA, a 30-minute nightly news program produced and aired on TFC in North America, was selected to be among the fellows to receive two weeks of training as part of the pilot Maynard 200 program. 

Maynard 200 aims to expand the diversity pipeline in media by training 200 diverse storytellers in the next five years. The program is supported by Google News Lab, the News Integrity Initiative and the Craig Newmark Philanthropies, and is in partnership with USC Annenberg and the City University of New York [CUNY].
